Top Bad Movies That Could Use a Remake

Hancock (2008)

IMDB – 6.4/10, Reviews

Starring Will Smith and Charlize Theron, ‘Hancock’ is one of the funny bad movies that deserve a remake. The plot follows John Hancock, a powerful superhero who’s now ridiculed because of his alcoholism. Moreover, his clumsiness doesn’t help at all to improve his reputation.

Now he is one of the most hated men in Los Angeles. Despite saving many lives, he causes damage worth millions of dollars every time he jumps into action.

One day, unknowingly, he saves the life of Ray Embrey, a PR expert. Not knowing how to thank him, Ray wants to show appreciation in his way. He believes Hancock can once again become a great personality and restore his superhero status.

Ray invites Hancock to dinner and introduces his son and wife, Aaron and Mary. But Mary doesn’t like Hancock for a mysterious reason and tries to keep him away from her family. An entertaining superhero film that lacks the final punch. It can easily turn into one of the best bad movies only if it had a better remake.

National Treasure (2007)

IMDB – 6.9/10, Reviews

Starring Nicolas Cage and Helen Mirren, ‘National Treasure’ is a film that has a great story but fails to deliver. The plot is set several years after Benjamin Franklin Gates discovered the Knights Templar and became rich and famous thanks to the discovery.

Another treasure hunter, Mitch Wilkinson, finds the missing page from the diary of John Wilkes Booth. The page contains clues about the lost city of gold. Now Ben must stay one step ahead of Mitch if he wants to discover the city first.

In his quest, Ben visits Great Britain and France to find out more clues. He even peeked inside the secret book of the president to stay ahead of his competition. Determined to put the puzzle together, Ben, with the help of friends and family, goes on an epic adventure.

The film provides good entertainment but fails to be excellent. One of the bad movies that will shine if given a chance to do so.

Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever (2002)

IMDB – 3.7/10, Reviews

This movie was so Meh that you wouldn’t even have heard of it even if it starred some really good celebrities. The story starts with an FBI agent, Jonathan Ecks, and a rogue DIA agent, Sever. These two are mortal enemies who are in a race to outwit each other. But soon, they realize a bigger enemy who’s controlling them as he wants.

The villain has created a micro-device that can be inserted inside humans to kill them at will. To defeat the common enemy, they must join hands and overcome their issue. Unfortunately, the cast wasn’t able to deliver a performance that could enhance the plot even more. Therefore this is one of those bad movies that, if made again, can shine.

From Hell (2001)

IMDB – 6.8/10, Reviews

It’s got Johnny Depp and still, it didn’t feel good. In 1888, the poor people lived a horrifying life in Whitechapel, the deadliest slum in London. Constantly made fun of by gangs, and forced to walk the plank to make a living, Mary Kelly and her group of friends trot through this daily lifestyle.

The only thought that keeps them going is that things can’t get any worse. However, it does when Ann, her friend, gets kidnapped. They are drawn into a conspiracy that involves people of high status.

After the abduction, the gruesome murder of Polly takes place. The event makes it clear to Mary that they are being hunted. Considered evil even by Whitechapel’s standards, the brutal murder intrigues Fred Abberline, a talented inspector who solves mysteries thanks to his psychic powers.

Abberline soon becomes deeply embroiled in the case as he and Mary fall in love with each other. Despite having its moments, ‘From Hell’ is one of the bad movies that deserve a remake.

Reign of Fire (2002)

IMDB. – 6.2/10, Reviews

This movie had Bale AND McConaughey and still flopped. The plot is set in present-day London, where a 12-year-old-girl, Quinn Abercromby, witnesses the awakening of a fire-breathing dragon on a chance encounter. The beast awoke from his century-long slumber when a dog supervised by her mom went wrong.

These creatures have created havoc on Earth by destroying civilizations and making humans endangered. So enters Denton Van Zan, the dragon slayer, the only person alive to have killed a dragon.

Along with Denton, Alex, a member of his army,\ also comes along to lend a hand. Unfortunately, the film failed to please the audience despite having a star-studded cast. One of the bad movies that can be a good one if appropriately remade.

Wild Wild West (1999)

IMDB – 4.9/10, Reviews

Fresh Prince tried really hard to make it a blockbuster with this movie. Starring Will Smith and Salma Hayek, ‘Wild Wild West’ gave a sci-fi look to the west but failed to pack a punch. The story is about Jim West, a Civil War hero known for his blazing guns, and Artemus Gordon, a U.S Marshall known for his inventive disguise.

Arliss Loveless, the evil leader of the psychotic confederation, threatens the United States. This prompted Ulysses S Grant, the president, to task the duo to bring Arliss to justice.

Gordon and Jim hop on a train journey to face various threats and combine their skills to defeat Loveless. A fun and entertaining plot that turned into one of the funny bad movies. Though the plot is intriguing, a modern take on this story might become a good one.

The Cannonball Run (1981)

IMDB – 6.2/10, Reviews

A classic comedy film that packs a star cast worth noting but couldn’t deliver much with its plot. The movie begins with the cast waiting to participate in the most fantastic auto race. A cross-country road race that maps through testing terrains.

The participants are full of eccentric people who will do anything and go to any length to win the race—inspired by the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash. In this race event, anything illegal is allowed.

A wild and crazy film that served the audience well but with a modern spin-off, ‘The Cannonball Run’ can shine.

The Postman (1997)

IMDB – 6.1/10, Reviews

This movie is set in a dystopian world of a post-apocalyptic America. A strange traveler who no one knows about dons the postman outfit and carries a bag full of mail with himself. He bluffs his way to deliver mail into the town by making townsfolk believe that the United States government has been reinstated.

Tricking the people into feeding him, the postman becomes a symbol of hope for many. He made them remember a time that used to be and how everything was prosperous—igniting flames into the hearts of people, giving them the courage to stand up against the evil warlord and take their home back.

It is an excellent poorly executed sci-fi movie, turning it into one of the bad movies that deserve a remake.

After learning about a mysterious plot involving Senator McComb and the incident that killed his wife, he sets his eyes on him. One of the bad movies that didn’t make any sense but with modern CGI effects, ‘Timecop’ can be a good sci-fi film.

The Island (2005)

IMDB – 6.8/10, Reviews

Seemingly upset, Lincoln starts investigating the rumored paradise, and this is when he uncovers the absolute truth behind the lottery game.

‘The Island’ is a fun ride with a great plot, yet it wasn’t able to perform well at its time of release. However, this is one of the bad movies that deserve a remake.

Gotti (2018)

IMDB – 4.7/10, Reviews

The film is based on the real-life of John Gotti, a man and a father who lived and died by the mob code, and his son who grew up in a life of crime but decided to redeem his family name. The movie offers an inside look into the working of the Gotti family and the dangerous world of the mob.

After a few altercations, John Gotti became the head of the Gambino family, one of the largest criminal organizations. His expensive suits and flamboyant lifestyle made him one of the famous mobsters.

He remained the head of the family till he died due to cancer in 2002. After that, he was officially inducted into the mafia at the age of 24 and lived a quiet eventful life whose story can easily enamor the audience.

But ‘John Gotti’ was not the film to do so, and hence this lousy movie can be turned into an excellent one with a modern remake.

During the first night of this implementation, eight young mall employees decide to have an after-party at the home furnishing store in the mall. The party goes on late until night, and the mall enters lockdown mode before the employees leave.

The security system was supposed to neutralize outside threats, malfunctions and start hunting down everyone. Instead, it turns out as one of the bad movies that could use a remake.
